Assessing location of the colony and safety
Bees sometimes build hives/nests in the darndest of places. Before working with bees, we always assess the location of the colony to understand how best to remove it. This is both to ensure the safety of our technicians and the colony, as well as to minimise any damage to your property. Depending on the honey bee location, damage may be unavoidable, removing bricks etc, we are experts in this field and will always discuss this with you beforehand via a survey, and take steps to ensure any damage is kept to a minimum in order for our team to make good after the removal of the bees.
Safely and ethically subduing the bees and moving the colony into a temporary hive to transport.
Before working with a honey bee colony, we subdue the bees using funnelled smoke. This does not harm the bees but simply temporality interferes with their communication, so they don’t become alarmed and agitated. This allows us to safely work on the colony without a threat being posed to us or the bees. Once subdued, we begin the process of hoovering the bees into a special purpose built box. Depending on the bees location, we may allow them to gradually move into a mobile hive box by themselves. This process can take several days and we will mark the area appropriately. Once the hive is moved, either manually or passively, all the honey a comb has to bee removed, and sterilized, we will then remove the hive box, along with the comb from your property.
Safely relocating the hive to a suitable managed location
Once the hive has been removed from your property, we relocate it to a local apiary in Market Bosworth where the bees are the transferred into a full size working hive, where they will continue to live happily without posing a danger to humans. They will also have the added benefit of hive management, we have 3 full time beekeepers who ensure they will thrive to full capacity, pollinating crops all around the area, meaning that any natural processes such as weather extremes which can endanger a hive will be mitigated.
